Eating disorder dietitian in NYC + virtually

Specialized nutrition counseling for eating disorders and disordered eating, grounded in more than 20 years of experience in the field

Food can feel complicated, especially when you're navigating an eating disorder or struggling with disordered eating. You don't need a formal diagnosis or to know exactly what you need help with to deserve support. If food feels difficult or overwhelming, we can start wherever you are and work toward a more peaceful relationship with food, without judgment or expectations.

At Olive Branch Nutrition, I provide personalized nutrition counseling for eating disorders and disordered eating in NYC and virtually in select states. My approach is weight-inclusive, trauma-informed, and grounded in evidence-based nutrition care, while recognizing that there isn't one right way to approach food or healing. Together, we'll talk through what's been going on and figure out what kind of support makes sense for you.

Experience matters

I've spent more than 20 years working in and alongside the eating disorder field, including more than 10 years as a registered dietitian, with experience across hospital, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient settings.

That background has taught me that there isn't a textbook answer for every person or every stage. What helps one person may not be right for another, and what you need can change over time. My approach draws on clinical knowledge, nutrition science, and what I learn from you to make nutrition support practical, compassionate, and appropriate for where you are.

What to expect when working with an eating disorder dietitian

Working with an eating disorder dietitian is a collaborative process centered around you, not a standard meal plan or a predetermined formula for recovery. Eating disorder nutrition counseling can look different for everyone.

We'll focus on realistic steps that meet you where you are and adjust as your needs change.

Your first session
We'll talk about your relationship with food, nutrition history, current eating patterns, health, and what has been making eating difficult. We'll also consider any medical, emotional, cultural, or other factors that may be affecting your ability to eat and meet your nutrition needs.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you come in, and you don't need to tell your entire story all at once. We'll start with what feels most important to you.

Making a plan that works in real life
From there, we'll identify realistic, manageable steps based on your needs, circumstances, and goals.

Depending on what would be helpful, this might include establishing more consistent eating patterns, improving nutrition adequacy, expanding food variety, working through food fears or rigid food rules, or finding practical strategies that make meals and snacks easier.

The goal isn't to give you another set of rules to follow. It's to help you build skills and flexibility in a way that actually works in your everyday life.

As things change, we adjust
Follow-up sessions give us space to build on what you've learned, troubleshoot what's getting in the way, and adjust your nutrition support as your needs change.

We might practice skills together, work through food fears or challenging situations, explore new foods, or talk through what happens when things don't go as planned. The goal is to help you feel more comfortable and flexible with food while building skills you can use in everyday life. There is no expectation of perfection.

We may work on things like:

  • Building more consistent eating patterns

  • Challenging rigid food rules and food fears

  • Expanding food acceptance and variety

  • Reducing anxiety around food

  • Meeting your nutrition needs more consistently

  • Navigating eating at restaurants, work, travel, or social situations

“Lindsay is smart, empathetic, thorough, and an amazing professional to partner with when you're trying to unpack disordered eating... She truly meets her clients where they are at... It's so helpful to have Lindsay as a clinician who understands this and who can formulate a realistic plan where you truly feel like it is a partnership of working together. Would highly recommend.”

ARFID & selective eating nutrition support

ARFID nutrition support focuses on meeting your nutritional needs while helping you build a more flexible relationship with food at a pace that works for you. We can work on food chaining, sensory preferences, fear-based food avoidance, meal structure, nutrition adequacy, and practical strategies for navigating eating at home, school, work, or social situations. Progress is individualized and may involve building from foods that already feel safe toward new foods in manageable steps.

“It was a pleasure working with Lindsay Wengler. She helped me understand my child and guided me through the process of introducing new foods. Now I can proudly say he eats well and enjoys healthy meals, without being forced or getting frustrated. Thank you so much.”
